NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb head women’s soccer coach Kevin O’Brien has announced the addition of 14 student-athletes who have sign their national letter of intent to join the Lady Bisons starting in the fall.
“I am very pleased to announce the signing of 14 quality young women to the women’s soccer program” O’Brien said. “It is the culmination of a lot of hard work put in by our coaching staff over the past year.
“We have a very talented group of girls joining the squad and I’m confident that these players will immediately add depth and competition to our program”.
The class consists of four international players, four Elite Club National League players and six top regional players that all have extensive experience with their states Olympic Development Program.
Carlotta Fennefoss 5-9, D, Oslo, Norway (Club: Lyn F.C.)
Carlotta just captained the Norwegian U20 National Team last month in La Manga, Spain. These friendly matches included games vs. USA, Germany & Denmark. Carlotta has also led her U19 national team to the finals of the European Championships to be played in Wales later this year.
“Carlotta is a composed and a quick central defender,” O’Brien said. “She reads the game extremely well and plays with the skill of a central midfielder. She has good vision and distribution on the attacking side of the game and can run with the quickest of strikers defensively”
Jolene Muir 5-4, M, Auckland, NZ (Club: Eastern Suburbs)
Jolene Muir, a native of Auckland, New Zealand, is a member of the U17 National team and scored a great goal against the Australian National Team to help win the 2012 Oceania Football Championship.
“Jolene is very quick and is good going 1 v 1 at defenders,” O’Brien said. “She can play either on the left or right wing with equal effectiveness and even possibly at forward. She is good in combination play and will add to our overall team attack”
Niamh Rawlins 5-8, D/M, Swindon, ENG (Club: Portsmouth)
Niamh Rawlins, a native of Swindon, Wiltshire, England, won a bronze medal at the Gothia Cup in Sweden while earning the Football Player of the Season during her prep career.
“Niamh is a simple and safe player that will strengthen our left flank,” O’Brien said. “She has good athleticism and can play as a fullback or as a winger. Her distribution is strong and she serves a nice whipped ball in the box”
Shelby Auterhoff 5-6, M, Sarnia, Ontario (Club: London Gryphons)
Shelby Auterhoff, a native of Sarnia, Ontario, earned team MVP honors in 2012 while serving as team captain in 2011 and 2012.
“Shelby is a strong and sturdy central midfielder,” O’Brien. “She not only improves combativeness in the middle but her soccer IQ is high. She will improve our ability to possess the ball under pressure”
Anna James Buhigas 5-7, GK, Columbus, OH (Club: Ohio Premier)
Anna James Buhigas, a native of Columbus, Ohio, holds her school’s shutout and saves record while being named all-state. She is a four-time state champion while being named team MVP in 2012.
“Anna is an athletic and agile keeper,” O’Brien said. “She is very good at reading the game, thus simplifying her job in goal. Her mental speed is excellent in transition and she is always looking to get the counter happening as quick as possible.”
Alesondra Colbert 5-5, F, Phoenix, AZ (Club: Del Sol)
A 4.0 Honor Roll student, Alesondra Colbert from Phoenix, Ariz., is a letter winner adding depth to the strikers for the Lady Bisons.
“Alesondra is a great addition to our core of strikers,” O’Brien said. “She has track-star pace and a great work ethic. She plays equally well with her back to the goal or darting behind defenses”
Alyssa Plowman 5-6, M, Lebanon, OH (Club: Ohio Elite)
Alyssa Plowman, a native of Lebanon, Ohio, joins the Lady Bisons after earning the Golden Boot Award for scoring 10 goals and dishing out eight assists as a junior.
“Alyssa is a quick and sharp midfielder,” O’Brien said. “She is a winger that runs well at defenders in the attack but can defend equally as well. She is a tenacious and tough player.”
Brooke Coakley 5-6, M, Granite City, IL (Club: Scott Gallagher)
Brooke Coakley, hailing from Granite City, Ill., was a state champion in 2011 while also winning the Missouri Regional in 2010.
“Brooke is a smooth central midfielder who is a good passer and distributor of the ball,” O’Brien said. “More of a playmaker, she will add strength to our attacking endeavors here at Lipscomb.”
Kirsten Herndon 5-7, M, Mayfield, KY (Club: Tennessee SC)
Joining the Lady Bisons from Mayfield, Ky., is Kirsten Herndon. She was a 2012 All-State selection and four-time All-Region selection.
“Kirsten is an industrious midfielder,” O’Brien said. “She is a tough kid that can either mix it up or play attractive possession soccer, depending on what the game requires.”
Carolyn Springsteen 5-7, D, Columbus, OH (Club: Cincinnati United Premier)
A native of Mason, Ohio, Carolyn Springsteen was a sectional, district and regional champion during her time at Mason High School.
“Carolyn is a solid defender that reads the game well,” O’Brien said. “She is composed under pressure and should help our possession in the defensive-third of the field.”
Ellen Lundy 6-1, F, Rogers, AR (Club: Northwest Arkansas Lightning)
Ellen Lundy, a native of Rogers, Ark., earned All-State honors in 2012. She was a four-year team captain and won six state championships with her club team.
“Ellen is a strong target striker,” O’Brien said. “She has nice feet and is good combining with her back to the goal. She is strong in the air and will be a great target on set pieces.”
Ali Critcher 5-7, F, Edgewood, KY (Club: Kings Hammers)
Alison Critcher, a native of Edgewood, Ky., earned All-State Honorable Mention her junior and senior seasons at Dixie Heights High School. She also was a two-time state runner-up with her club team in 2011 and 2012.
“Ali is an opportunistic striker that is always looking to score,” O’Brien said. “She competes very well and will improve our overall athleticism”
Lyndie Donnegan 5-6, D/M, Franklin, TN (Club: Tennessee SC)
Lyndie Donegan joins the Lady Bisons after an All-State career at Franklin High School. A three-time All-State performer, Donegan scored 42 goals and is tied for the AAA division record with 53 assists. Donegan won the 2011 TSSAA State Championship with a 24-0-0 record.
“Lyndie has above average pace, strength and athleticism,” O’Brien said. “Her commitment and toughness make her a good defender but she can get forward in attack too. She will play either right back or midfielder this fall.”
Catherine Simmons 5-7, F, Chanhassen, MN (Club: Eden Prarie)
Catherine Simmons, from Chanhassen, Minn., is an All-Conference performer and three-time letter winner for Minnehaha Academy. Simmons also won the 2012 Minnesota State Cup while leading both her club team and high school team in goals scored.
“Catherine will factor into our team as a forward or wide midfielder,” O’Brien said. “She has great pace and a wonderful work ethic.
“There is a lot of optimism surrounding the women’s soccer team right now. Adding impact players to our current team should give us a great nucleus to build the future upon.”
