MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb freshman Sally Larson has one collegiate race under her belt. She can now add Atlantic Sun Cross Country Runner of the Week to her accomplishments.
The league announced Wednesday afternoon that Larson was the top runner after the first weekend of races.
“Sally ran a very impressive first collegiate race,” Bill Taylor, director of cross country and track and field, said. “She worked really well with Tessa (Hoefle) and ran tough.”
Larson, a native of Falls City, Wash., finished second overall but was the top collegiate runner at the Belmont Opener in 17:54.10. The time was a course record on Lipscomb’s home turf and home of the 2013 A-Sun Championships.
“She’s been part of a group that has been doing things in practice already that we’ve never seen before in any practice at any point of any season,” Taylor said. “Sally will just get stronger.
“She had a terrific debut and is a major addition to our program as a runner and as a person.”
