Men's basketball head coach Scott Sanderson has announced the addition of long-time coach Hubie Smith to the staff.

Smith, a veteran of 19-years at Bartlett High School in Memphis, was serving as director of basketball operations at Belmont University before moving down the boulevard to Lipscomb.

"Hubie Smith is well-regarded in the coaching community," Sanderson said. "He brings a lot of assets to the table."

Smith directed Bartlett to a 440-190 record during his tenure, including a 231-55 record his final eight seasons there. Bartlett participated in four TSSAA Tournaments from 1997-2003.

In addition to his coaching duties, Bartlett filled the role of athletic director at Bartlett from May 2001 until December of 2003.

Smith will be involved in on-the-floor coaching, player development and scouting.

"He will do a little bit of everything for us," Sanderson said. "He is a great addition to the staff. I told our players our staff is strong with the addition of Coach Smith."

Smith played basketball and golf at Harding University where he was named Athlete of the Year in 1983. He was a first-team NAIA All-American on both golf and basketball.

Smith earned his B.A. in Education at Harding and his Master's in Athletic Administration from the University of Memphis. He spent one season at Memphis as a graduate assistant with the basketball team.

Smith replaces assistant coach Malcolm Montgomery who chose to accept an assistant coaching position at Cumberland University in Lebanon.

Smith and his wife Dee Anna have three children: Adam, Rachel and Rebecca. Adam is a student at Lipscomb University.
