Lipscomb University golf coach Ralph Samples has announced the signing for golfer Luke Ficken from Fairview, Tenn.
Ficken was the MVP at Fairview High all four years. He was a Wendy's High School Heisman nominee. Ficken won the O'Charley's Student-Athlete Award. He graduated fifth in his class.
Ficken was the Region IV A-AA golf champion in 2005. He was third place in the region in 2004. He posted the 10th lowest score in the 2005 A-AA State Tournament. He posted the lowest season average in A-AA by more than a stroke in 2005. He also won the United States Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award. Ficken also lettered in baseball all four seasons in school.
"Luke is a young individual that has the want and will to take him to any distance to accomplish any endeavor he attempts," said Fairview High golf coach Phillip G. Johnson. "He is well-liked by the students and his peers. He is a hard worker and has many great ideas to share with others. He is an excellent student and never fails to accomplish any task. Luke is the type of person who will come to you and ask if there is anything else he can do.
"I have been associated with Luke for many years, through his classes and the golf team. His work ethic during golf season paid many dividends allowing Luke to finish the district tournament as the low medalist and to advance to the regional and state tournaments. Luke has a great personality that will make him successful after high school and college."
Ficken plans to major in Finance/Economics. He is the son of Susan and Jack Ficken.
"The Christian environment is every important to me," Ficken said. "I am also very excited about my major offered and the positive, excited attitude towards learning felt at Lipscomb. Coach Samples and the golf program also have me pumped about attending Lipscomb."
