For 74 minutes Lipscomb's Lady Bisons soccer team battled host Birmingham-Southern College to a 0-0 deadlock..
But a 15-minute portion of the second half was all Birmingham-Southern needed to take a 4-0 victor Tuesday night in Birmingham, Ala. It was the second straight shutout for Birmingham-Southern, 3-3 on the season. The Lady Bisons slipped to 0-4-1.
The first goal for Birmingham Southern was at the 74-minute mark when Catherine Spiker kicked in a loose ball in the box after a corner kick from Caitlin Gordon. Before 60 more seconds could pass the score was 2-0 with Mindy Woods driving home the rebound of a shot into an open net.
At the 85-minute mark Megan Blalock scored goal No. 3 on a 25-yard shot from the left side that went into the upper right corner of the net. Caroline Reehl added the final goal at 89 minutes.
"It's always good to play Lipscomb. A long-time rival from our NAIA days," said Birmingham-Southern Coach Keidane McAlpine. "It's always a tough game,"
The Lady Bisons managed six shots while Birmingham-Southern was credited with 25. The Lady Bisons made four shots on goal with Sarah Hennum credited with two while Sasha Sack and Melissa Chambers each added one. Birmingham-Southern made 14 shots on goal.
Bethany Copeland was in goal for the Lady Bisons. She made 10 saves.
