Lady Bisons close out soccer schedule with 5-0 loss to UTM
The Lipscomb Lady Bisons soccer team closed out the regular season at home, but there was nothing sweet about it.
The Lady Bisons said a farewell to six seniors Friday night as they fell 5-0 to the University of Tennessee-Martin.
UT-Martin controlled the game from start to finish. Their first goal was at 27:42 when forward Jody Kiers stationed herself in front of the net. She needed three tries, but found the net from feet out after Lady Bisons goalkeeper Bethany Copeland had blocked her first two shots.
At 28:02 forward Kristina Goldstine found herself wide open from about 25 yards out after getting the ball from midfielder Sarah Bedell. Goldstine blasted a shot into the left corner of the goal for a 2-0 UT-Martin lead.
In the second period it was more of the same. Forward Dani Myrick scored at 65:23 off of a pass from midfielder Jessica Metcalf.
Forward Katie Jackson made it 4-0 at 80:29 when she found the net with a shot from about 10 yards out off of a breakaway.
Defender Lindsey Tilk closed out the scoring at 86:10. Her shot from about 18 feet out went over Copeland's head and into the right corner of the net.
Megan Dempsey made six saves for UT-Martin to earn the shutout. Copeland made nine saves for the Lady Bisons.
Myrick recorded a game-high six shots and tied for the team lead in shots on goal with three along with Jackson and Goldstine.
Midfielder Melissa Chambers and defender Brittany Harp each had three shots for the Lady Bisons.
UT-Martin is 9-10-0. The Lady Bisons closed out the season with an 0-18-1 record.
UT-Martin out-shot the Lady Bisons 21-10 with 14 shots on goal to the Lady Bisons six.
The Lady Bisons made five corner kicks. UT-Martin had four.
