Sara Meek, a junior right-hander from Brentwood, pitched two nearly perfect games last week on the road against the two perennial powerhouses in the Atlantic Sun to earn Pitcher-of-the-Week honors in the conference.
Meek is the first Lipscomb softball player to earn A-Sun Player-of-the-Week honors.
On March 22, Meek pitched a two-hit, seven-inning complete game shutout against UCF. She struck out five.
On March 25 she led Lipscomb to a 1-0 victory over eight-time defending A-Sun champion Florida Atlantic.
Meek allowed only three hits in pitching another seven-inning, complete game. She struck out 12 batters.
Lipscomb Head Coach Andy Lane was proud of Meek's performance.
"Sara was simply terrific in the two games this week. It was two of the most impressive pitching performances we have seen and it was especially impressive with her not feeling 100%. Much of the time she pitched on determination and heart. We have such a tremendous amount of respect for both UCF and Florida Atlantic and the two wins were a great start in the conference. Anytime a player gets an individual award it really is a result of the team doing well. Sara was the first to let her teammates know what a great job they did in helping us get the wins. This is another step in helping our program grow and building our team into a respected program. Hopefully we will have many more Atlantic Sun honors, but it is always special when it is the first,"Lane said.
