The Lady Bisons defeated the Dolphins of Jacksonville 3-2, 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at Crockett Park. Jennifer Cannon went a combined 2-for-6 and was the game one hero as she drove in all three runs.
In game one Jacksonville struck early and scored two runs in the first inning. The Lady Bisons responded with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and would hold onto the lead.
Leigh Little hit a lead off single to right field. Julia Davidson then hit a sac-bunt to move Little to second base. Jessica Wilson walked. Little advanced to third on a wild pitch. Heather Collins popped up to the third baseman. Jennifer Cannon then cleared the bases with a three-run homer to seal the game.
Catalano threw a complete game as she scattered four hits and gave up no earned runs while fanning eight batters in game one. Catalano is now 8-8 and lowered her earned run average to 2.13. Catalano has pitched 12 complete games.
The Dolphins scored two runs off of four hits and committed zero errors. The Lady Bisons scored three runs off of two hits and committed two errors.
In game two starting right-handed pitcher Sara Meek threw 6 solid innings as she scattered seven hits and gave up three earned runs and struck out three. Meek earned the win and is now 7-4 with an earned run average of 3.21.
Allison Tyree relieved Meek in the seventh inning and closed the door on the Dolphins. Tyree gave up zero hits and zero runs while striking out two of the four batters she faced. Tyree also earned her first save of the season. Tyree now has an earned run average of 3.85.
The Lady Bisons improved their record to 20-18 overall and are 10-7 in the A-Sun. The Dolphins fell to 27-26, and 6-7 in the A-Sun.
The Lady Bisons will put their four game win streak on the line when they host rival Belmont on Wednesday at Crockett Park at 2:00 p.m.
