It's all about doing the little things right in order to be successful.
When the Lady Bisons volleyball team pays attention to the little things then good things usually happen. Against Middle Tennessee Tuesday night on the road in Murfreesboro at Alumni Memorial Gym the Lady Bisons didn't take care of those little things and lost 3-0.
"We didn't take advantage of all our opportunities," said Lipscomb Coach Brandon Rosenthal. "I expect us to perform as a team."
Scores of the games were 30-22, 30-23 and 30-25. It was the second time match in a row that the Lady Bisons have lost 3-0.
"It was a tough loss for me because I thought we had more of chance to win," Rosenthal said. "Middle Tennessee is ranked in the 70s nationally. They were the highest ranked team we have played except for Tennessee and Texas."
In game one the Lady Bisons saw a four-point lead disappear.
"We were tied at 21-21 in the first game," Rosenthal said. "They went on a run after that and we couldn't stop them.
"We were doing some nice things. I thought we frustrated them in all three games. When you play as team as good as Middle Tennessee it is not good enough to just play through the games. Everybody has to be clicking for us to be successful. "
In games two and three the Lady Bisons and Middle Tennessee were tied into the late teens, but the Lady Bisons couldn't take advantage of either situation.
"It was not a bad loss," Rosenthal said. "Everybody on our team has started to realize we have gotten a lot better, but the real story is that we have a chance to win games and matches every time we play."
There were a handful of individual performances of note for the Lady Bisons. Middle blocker Alex Scruggs posted a .500 hitting percentage She finished with 12 kills with only one error in 22 attacks.
"Alex did a great job," Rosenthal said. "She didn't make an error until the third game."
Outside hitter Cara Wilber put in another strong night with another double-double _ a team-leading 17 kills and 11 digs. Libero Ann Mullions led the Lady Bisons with a match-high 20 digs.
"Cara is really becoming the player I think she can," Rosenthal said. "She is a huge factor for us. She didn't get a lot of help from the other outside hitter spot."
Lipscomb fell to 10-16 overall. Middle Tennessee is 23-2.
The Lady Bisons are back home in Allen Arena Friday night against Tennessee Tech of the Ohio Valley Conference at 7 p.m.
