Lipscomb's top runner, Ruth Mick, ran near the front during the entire race, to lead the Lady Bisons to their first ever, second place finish at Vanderbilt's Commodore Classic held at the Vaughn's Gap section of Percy Warner Park. Vanderbilt won the race against nine other Southeastern teams.
The Lady Bison scored 62 points, beating Emory by four points. Emory University who placed third in the competition.
"Many of our girls experimented with new race strategies that were quite effective and led to numerous personal records," said Lipscomb cross country coach Karen Robichaud.
The top four Lipscomb runners ran in the top 15 of the race. Mick ran 18:53 on the hilly terrain and Susan Worden was 8th in the race with a time of 19:17. Roommates Sam Wood and Elizabeth Schall paced each other to finish the course in 19:29 and 19:41 respectively.
Zac Yanis led the Bison men's team to a fifth place finish with a score of 121.
