Lipscomb rising senior Eddie Ard will join six Southeastern Conference basketball players in traveling to China Monday to participate in a basketball tour coordinated by Reach USA, a division of Sports Reach.
"I'm excited about having the opportunity to travel to China and see a new culture and just get to play basketball, which is something I love to do," said Ard.
Ard averaged 15.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game during the 2006-07 season while starting all 31 games for the Bisons. A member of the 2nd team All-Atlantic Sun, Ard led the conference in free throw percentage at 83.0%.
"I know that my teammates are going to be very competitive playing in big games and in front of large crowds," Ard said.
"Going to play against competition with the size and strength equal or above SEC quality is going to help him understand how he can raise his level of play," said Lipscomb coach Scott Sanderson. "This can give him confidence in the level of competition he can play with and against and hopefully springboard him into his senior year."
The complete team includes Ard, LSU's Garrett Temple, Mississippi State's Brian Johnson, Texas-Pan American's Paul Stoll, Auburn's Quan Prowell and Rasheem Barrett, and Alabama's Mikhail Torrance and Demetrius Jemison.
The team arrives in Beijing on Wednesday and will play eight games in ten days throughout China against various professional teams.
"Competition brings out the best in you," said Ard. "When you are not facing the top competition, sometimes you can play sloppy. These games will force me to bring my A game."
The squad is coached by Texas-Pan American head coach Tom Schuberth and assisted by Auburn assistant Bryan Bartley.
Last summer, Lipscomb assistant coach Jay Walton coached a similar tour to China.
