Bisons Get First Win of the Season in a Dramatic Style

After trailing the Spartans from San Jose State for nearly 38 minutes, the Bisons took the lead on a Michael Lusk three pointer that helped spark a dramatic come back victory. This added to a 29-12 run that the Bisons strung together in the last nine minutes of the game. Lipscomb defeated San Jose State 79-72 to improve to 1-4. The Spartans fell to 2-1.

"I'm just proud of our guys for getting out and competing and playing," said coach Scott Sanderson. "We played not great the whole game, but I thought when we needed to the most down the stretch we were pretty good."

San Jose State took control of the game early on with a 10-2 run. However, the Bisons went on a 9-3 run of their own to cut the deficit to 2 with 12:38 left to play in the first half.

Lipscomb would continue to stay close but never tie or take the lead over the Spartans in the first half. Jamon Hill hit a jump shot as the clock ran out to extend San Jose State's lead to nine. This was the largest deficit for Lipscomb in the first half.

The Bisons were out rebounded 26-11 in the first half. Lipscomb shot 42% from the field and only accumulated two turnovers.

Eddie Ard led the Bisons with 11 points in the first half.

San Jose State stretched their lead out to 13 at the 16:12 mark of the second half. This would prove to be the Spartans largest lead of the game.

From that point on the Bisons would continue to chip away at the lead until they took their first lead of the game at the 2:03 mark in the second half. Eddie Ard and Josh Slater both led the charge for the dramatic come from behind victory. Ard finished with 19 points and slater with 18.

"Josh Slater came in there and played terrific for us. He drove the ball to the hole, made some timely threes, and got a couple of steals," said Sanderson.

Michael Lusk and LaKory Daniels also chipped in with crucial three pointers. Brandon Brown came up with 11 rebounds. This was his second consecutive game with more than 10 rebounds.

Lipscomb's second half 29-12 run helped capture their first win of the season. "We're going to keep getting better," said Sanderson. "The biggest thing is tonight I just like the way they competed. They competed and were able to get the win."

Lipscomb defeated San Jose State 79-72 to improve to 1-4. San Jose State is 2-1.

The Bisons next action comes on Tuesday night when they travel to play Purdue. The action can be heard on the Lipscomb Radio Network.
