Your collector's DVD of the 2009 Don Meyer Evening of Excellence with former Lipscomb men's basketball coach Don Meyer is on sale for $25. It includes a question and answer session with Meyer and Athletic Director Philip Hutcheson, the tribute video shown before Meyer's speech, and the keynote address.

Friday night several members of the 1979 National Championship team returned to the Lipscomb campus where they were presented rings commemorating their title. They also received Lipscomb hats and blue road jerseys which were exact replicas of the ones they wore in 1979.

Mr. Jim Wood, 83, passed away Feb. 22. He was inducted into the Lipscomb University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002 in the Meritorious Service category. He was also the organizer of the monthly Jim Wood Group lunch meetings which were held each month in  the Hall of Fame Room at Allen Arena.

Lipscomb athletics director Philip Hutcheson will be inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame on Friday. Hutcheson was a four-time All-American (1986-1990) basketball player for the Bisons.

Lipscomb University student-athletes made a direct impact and left an extremely positive impression on the town of Paducah, Ky., Saturday as they helped provide relief to the victims of the historic ice storm that paralyzed the region last week.

Minnesota Twins pitcher R.A. Dickey will be speaking at this week's Lipscomb Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) meeting. The meeting will take place Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 9 p.m. in the Hall of Fame Room in Allen Arena.

Saturday was Family Day with the Bisons. The afternoon was full of fun and excitement. Thanks to the 501st Legionnaire of Stormtroopers, several Star Wars characters made an appearance at Allen Arena. Larry & Bob from VeggieTales were there too. After the game kids got to see the Bisons in their locker room and shoot on the Allen Arena baskets that were lowered to eight feet.

Cheryl Smith's former teammates, coaches, teachers, classmates, family and friends came together on January 19 to put on a benefit concert for Cheryl and her daughter Chelsee. The event raised more than $7600.

Bellevue Church of Christ is hosting this benefit concert for Cheryl Smith, a standout basketball player for Lipscomb University, former assistant women's basketball coach and a member of the Lipscomb Athletics Hall of Fame. Medical treatment for a brain tumor has left her unemployed and completely wiped out financially. The doctor's have given her a clean bill of health, but it will take some financial assistance to get her back on her feet.

Trish Hodgson-Carruth, a former coach, teacher and student at Lipscomb University passed away Thursday night, Jan. 8, after a long battle with cancer and complications. She was known for her professionalism, honesty and integrity. She was inducted into the Lipscomb Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.

Barry Brewer, a Lipscomb Athletics Hall of Fame member, passed away on Dec. 10 after an 11-year battle with cancer. Brewer was Lipscomb men's basketball coach Scott Sanderson's best friend for the last 10 years, a proud Lipscomb graduate, and perhaps Bison athletics' most active plain-clothes cheerleader. Grant Boone celebrates the positive influence his cousin left on this world.

A BLESSING. EVEN now, three months after the accident that nearly claimed his life, Don Meyer calls it a blessing. "You can't look at it any other way," he says. It was a blessing to crash into a semi that was carrying 90,000 pounds of grain while driving to a team retreat on Sept. 5.

The 2008 Lipscomb baseball team was honored Thursday evening with a reception where they received their Atlantic Sun Championship rings. On the surface, Lipscomb President L. Randolph Lowry III stepped out of the box to hire former Lipscomb basketball star Philip Hutcheson as the school's athletics director. Lowry could not have made a more popular choice, despite the fact Hutcheson has no previous experience in athletics administration.

Spiritually, Don Meyer is stronger than he has ever been. Physically, the Northern State men's basketball coach still has some battles ahead. However, the 63-year-old beloved Aberdeen man has made full-court, game-winning strides since his Sept. 5 auto accident. For several days after that accident, Meyer was in a fight for his life.

"Once a Bison, always a Bison,” McKelvey said as he was called upon to pray Wednesday during a “Welcome Rally” for new athletic director Philip Hutcheson. FRANKLIN, Ky. - For the first time ever the annual Bison Golf Scramble was played at Kenny Perry's Country Creek Golf Course. The main reason for the change was that at the awards dinner Thursday night PGA golfer Kenny Perry and Franklin, Ky., businessman Ronnie Ferguson were both inducted into the Lipscomb Athletics Hall of Fame. The inductions were a surprise to both honorees.

Northern State University officials announced on Friday that doctors at Avera McKennen Hospital in Sioux Falls successfully amputated former Lipscomb coach Don Meyer's left leg below the knee. The family is grateful that the doctors moved in this direction. Coach has been in a tremendous amount of pain due to his injury. He has a great attitude and was feeling a great sense of relief after making the decision with his family on Thursday.

Former Lipscomb basketball coach Don Meyer remains in a step down room according to information from Northern State University Wednesday. Meyer was seriously injured in a car wreck on September 5. Last Friday, Meyer announced that doctors had found cancer in his liver and small bowels. Meyer coached at Lipscomb from 1975 to 1999.

MACON, Ga. - The Atlantic Sun Conference and RMG announced today that they will re-launch ASun.TV in partnership with NeuLion Inc and JumpTV Inc. on Wednesday, September 3. ASun.TV will webcast a minimum of 660 regular-season and championship games across a variety of A-Sun sports, including men's and women's basketball, soccer and volleyball, as well as baseball and softball throughout the 2008-09 academic year.

The Atlantic Sun Conference announced the election of its officers for the 2008-09 academic year. Lipscomb President, Dr. Randy Lowry succeeds Dr. Kerry Romesburg (Jacksonville) as the Conference President and Chair of the Presidents Council. Mercer University President Bill Underwood will serve as Vice Chair of the Presidents Council and Chair of the Finance Committee.

Dr. Lin Garner has been named interim athletic director at Lipscomb University, President L. Randolph Lowry announced Friday. Garner, assistant athletic director for academics and senior women's administrator, fills the vacancy left by Steve Potts, who resigned from Lipscomb earlier this month to accept the position of senior associate director of athletics at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif.
