Thursday, October 16, 2008Lipscomb freshman forward Garret Pettis scored two goals, but it wasn't enough as the Bisons lost to Campbell 4-3 Thursday night in Buies Creek, N.C.
Also scoring for the Bisons was freshman Tony Garibaldi.
Pettis, the leading scorer in the Atlantic Sun Conference, scored his ninth and 10th goals of the season, tying the team record set last season by forward Miguel DaSilva. In the Campbell game DaSilva was credited with three saves. Freshman midfielder Andrew Chamberlain also had an assist.
Both teams entered the game unbeaten in the Atlantic Sun. Campbell had also not been beaten this season at the Eakes Athletic Complex. Campbell had a five-game winning streak on the line. The Bisons had won their last two games, but were unbeaten in their last five.
The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie in the first half off of goals by Campbell midfielder Richard Jata and Lipscomb's Garibaldi.
In the second half Pettis scored with a header off the bar that went in at 47:49 and then scored on a rebound at 56:46 to give the Bisons a 3-1 lead.
But Campbell roared back in the final 30 minutes of the game with two goals from forward Jason Keever and a final goal by Jata.
The Bisons attempted 19 shots and made 10 shots on goal. Campbell attempted 17 shots with 12 shots on goal.
Campbell goalkeeper Aaron Johnson made seven saves. Patrick Walsh made eight saves for the Bisons.
The Bisons slipped to 6-6-2 overall, 2-1-1 in the conference. Campbell is 7-5-0, 5-0 in the A-Sun.
