The Lipscomb Bisons finished their regular season home schedule with a disappointing loss to Florida Gulf Coast 2-1.
The Bisons entered the game Sunday starting six freshmen, three sophomores, one junior, and one senior.
Freshman Brent McGee started as goalkeeper and finished with one save, and two goals allowed. Freshman Patrick Walsh stepped in for McGee, and had two saves.
McGee is fourth in goals against average in the A-Sun (1.21). He earned his first collegiate shutout in the September 19th 2-0 win against Presbyterian.
The Bisons only goal was made by freshman midfielder Andre Santos and assisted by sophomore forward Miguel DaSilva. DaSilva is first in the A-Sun overall in shots (528), shots per game (3.25), assists (eight), and assists per game (.50).
In Atlantic Sun games, DaSilva is second in both shots (22) and shots per game (3.67). He is third in points per game (1.83) and second in assists (five) and assists per game (.83).
“We didn’t take Florida Gulf Coast as seriously as we needed to,” said Santos. “We just made dumb mistakes.”
The Bisons allowed two goals by FGCU, one scored own goal, and one header on a break away by freshman defender Brandon Price.
“Offensively, we didn’t do anything,” said Miguel DaSilva. “We just need to forget about it and come up strong in the next game.”
“I just think it was an obvious disappointment. That’s what happens when you take a team for granted. We played slow and sort of looked past FGCU,” said Head Coach Charles Morrow.
Two yellow cards were given during the game; one to FGCU’s Caleib Lynch; and one to Lipscomb’s Ricardo Atti. Both cards were for unsporting.
The Bisons are now 8-7-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the Atlantic Sun.
They will travel to University of North Florida on Friday, October 31st followed by the last game of the season at Jacksonville on Sunday, November 2nd.
