Monday, January 05, 2009The Lipscomb Lady Bisons continue to mature as a team, but the process has not been an easy one.
Monday night they lost 65-51 to Stetson in an Atlantic Sun Conference game at Allen Arena.
The Lady Bisons came out strong against Stetson. They led 16-14 with 10:12 left in the first half off of a 3-point shot by sophomore guard Jenna Bartsokas.
Stetson’s Tierra Brown tied the game at 16-16 on a jumper with 8:55 left in the first half. Jessica Conner connected on a jumper at 7:21 for an 18-15 lead.
The Lady Bisons knotted the score at 18-18 on a jumper in the lane by sophomore forward Cree Nix with 5:57 remaining before intermission. But Stetson responded and the Lady Bisons would not tie or regain the lead the rest of the way.
In the second half Stetson continued to build on their lead. The biggest advantage in the game was 18 points, 65-47, with 3:55 left on the clock.
Senior forward Jilian Partin earned her second double-double of the season with a game-high 11 rebounds and 11 points. Partin opened the season with a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds to open the regular season at Austin Peay. The 11 rebounds tied her season high.
Bartsokas tied Partin for the team lead in scoring with 11 points. Bartsokas entered the game in seventh place overall in scoring in the Atlantic Sun. Bartsokas has scored in double figures in 11 of 13 games.
Freshman center Clair Waggener made her third straight start. She scored a season-high seven points and also pulled down a season-high four rebounds.
Stetson placed four players in double figures. Conner led with 13 points. Sharnesha Smith added 12. Ashli Jackson chipped in with 10 points. Brittany Carannante posted a double-double with a team-leading 10 rebounds and 10 points.
The Lady Bisons slipped to 2-11, 0-4 in the conference. Stetson is 6-7, 3-1 in the conference.
Thursday night the Lady Bisons are back in action when Campbell visits at 6 as part of an Atlantic Sun doubleheader with the Bisons at Allen Arena.
