Mitchell Powers Lady Bisons to Five Wins

MACON, Ga. - Lipscomb freshman catcher Mollie Mitchell helped the Lady Bisons to a 5-1 record last week, including three conference victories over the weekend to earned her first career Player of the Week and Jacksonville junior pitcher Ashley Iveson recorded three wins in the Dolphins' 5-1 campaign last week to pick up her first career Pitcher of the Week honor the conference office announced on Monday.

Mitchell exploded at the plate last week, collecting 10 hits in 14 at bats for a .714 average. The math education major hit three home runs in game two of a doubleheader at Western Carolina on March 24, setting a new school record. Mitchell finished the doubleheader 7-for-7 with four runs scored and five RBI.

Iveson posted a 3-0 record with a 2.02 ERA in five appearances and three starts to pace the Dolphins. She struck out 10 batters in 17.1 innings, while allowing a staff-low 15 hits and five earned runs. Iveson earned both wins in the circle during the Dolphins’ doubleheader sweep over Brown on March 24. She allowed one run on two hits and fanned three batters to get the game one win. Iveson took game two in relief after allowing one run and three hits in 2.1 innings. She also won the second game against Belmont in relief, surrendering one run on three hits and striking out two in 2.2 innings. Iveson finished the week with 4.1 scoreless innings against Lipscomb to get a no-decision.

Christen Campbell, Lipscomb (Bartlett, Tenn. – Jr. – P – Exercise Science) – Was 2-0 for the week with 12-0 shutout of Western Carolina March 24 and 2-0 shutout of North Florida Friday. Has not been beaten this season. In the North Florida game she drove in both runs with a first inning double. Lady Bisons were 5-1 for the week and 3-1 in the A-Sun.

Catherine McDaniel, FGCU (Melbourne, Fla. – Jr. – P – Early Childhood Education) –McDaniel finished last week with a 2-0 record. In game one on Thursday against USC Upstate, McDaniel improved to 15-0 on the year after tossing a three-hit shutout for the Eagles. In FGCU's 11-5 win over ETSU, McDaniel pitched 7.0 innings and struck out five to improve her record to 16-0.

Ashley Mora, Jacksonville (Castro Valley, Calif. – Jr. – C/UT – Education) – Mora batted .524 (11-21) with six runs scored, three doubles, two triples and 11 RBI to lead the Dolphins to a 5-1 recorded in six games last week. She also had a .545 on-base percentage and a .857 slugging percentage.

Jessica Paez, FGCU (Belglade, Fla. – Sr. – SS – Health and Science) – Paez led the Eagles to a 4-0 record last week. She finished the week with a .583 batting average and a 1.333 slugging percentage. She also hit three home runs and had 11 RBI in FGCU's four games.
