Sunday, May 10, 2009The Lipscomb Lady Bisons softball team didn’t win the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Championship, but they did place three players on the All-Tournament team.
Freshman pitcher Whitney Kiihnl, first baseman Kellie Sirus and center fielder Lauren Dortwegt were selected by votes of both the coaches and the media relations representatives for each team.
Kiihnl posted a 2-1 record including one shutout. She pitched in all four games, starting three, as the Lady Bisons were 2-2 in the tournament Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Patricia Wilson Field on the campus of Stetson University in DeLand, Fla.
Kiihnl pitched 24 innings. She struck out 33 batters and allowed 16 hits and seven runs. She opened the tournament with a 6-0 shutout of ETSU.
Sirus batted .500 (6-of-12), drove in four runs and scored six times. She also had three doubles and one triple among her hits.
Dortwegt batted .467 (7-of-15). She scored five times.
