Bisons on the Air

The Lipscomb University Bisons (0-4, 0-0 A-Sun) seek their first win of the 2009-10 season when they travel to SIU Edwardsville (0-4, 0-0 OVC) Saturday afternoon. Game time is 2 p.m. in the Vadalabene Center.
Lipscomb is coming off an 84-64 loss at No. 17 Ohio State Tuesday evening. Adnan Hodzic lead Lipscomb with 18 points. The Bisons held a 32-30 advantage on the boards.
SIU Edwardsville enters off a 57-47 loss at Ball State last Saturday. David Boarden led SIU Edwardsville off the bench with 14 points. Mark Yelovich had nine points and 11 rebounds. SIU Edwardsville is shooting 36.4 percent from the field and 27.1 percent from beyond the arc.
The two teams met for the first time on Dec. 9 last year in Allen Arena. Lipscomb won 70-47 led by Hodzic who had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Lipscomb shot 56.5 percent in the second half while holding SIU Edwardsville to 31.4 percent shooting in the second half. Lipscomb made 18 free throws to SIU Edwardsville’s six.
Last Time Out
The Lipscomb University Bisons gave No. 17 ranked Ohio State a strong challenge for a majority of the game Tuesday night before falling 84-64 in Columbus.
A layup by Adnan Hodzic put Lipscomb (0-4) on the board first but the Bisons were not able to find their shooting stroke early missing nine of their next 11 attempts as Ohio State (4-1) built a 14-6 lead eight minutes into the game.
A three-pointer by Ohio State’s P.J. Hill and a dunk by Dallas Lauderdale off a Lipscomb turnover on the next possession gave the Buckeyes a ten point lead.
Lipscomb countered with a layup by Brandon Brown and then forced three consecutive Ohio State turnovers and scored on each to make it a 24-23 game with 5:05 left in the first half.
The Bisons did not open the second half on a strong note turning the ball over on their first four possessions.
Ohio State scored off three of those to extend its lead to 15 points, 42-27.
Finding themselves down by 15 points again four minutes into the second half, Lipscomb went on an 8-0 run to make it a 47-40 game with 13:43 left.
Ohio State shot well the whole evening which allowed the Buckeyes to consistently rebuild its lead. They finished 33-of-57 from the field for 57.9 percent. Ohio State was 11-of-22 from the three-point line.
Hodzic led Lipscomb with 18 points while Michael Teller added 11 points.
Lipscomb held a 32-30 advantage on the boards. The Bisons grabbed 13 offensive boards. Brown led Lipscomb with nine rebounds.
Lipscomb shot 25-of-58 from the field for 43.1 percent and were five-of-18 from beyond the arc for 27.8 percent.
Lipscomb - Ohio State Postgame Notes
Junior center Adnan Hodzic was a unanimous selection to the A-Sun preseason All-Conference team. Last year Hodzic was named to the postseason Atlantic Sun All-Conference team. Sophomore Brian Wright was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman team last year.
Lipscomb was picked to tie for first place for the Atlantic Sun Regular Season title and win the Atlantic Sun Championship in the preseason coaches poll. Lipscomb and Jacksonville each received 111 votes with Jacksonville receiving five first place votes to Lipscomb’s four. The Bisons were picked to finish second in the media poll. Jacksonville was picked first by the media.
Guard Robert Boyd from Fulton High School in Knoxville, Tenn. signed a National Letter of Intent on Nov. 17 to play with the Bisons.
Boyd is a 6’3 guard from two-time defending state champion Fulton High School in Knoxville, Tenn.
Boyd played a key role off the bench for Fulton in their run to the 2008 State Championship. He started for Fulton during their 2009 State Championship run.
Boyd was named to the 2009 TSSAA All-Tournament team. He posted a 14 point, seven-rebound, seven-assist game against Memphis Sheffield in the first round of the tournament.
Brown on the Boards
Junior Brandon Brown has 401 career rebounds. This tally puts him fourth among active players in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Good from the Field
Adnan Hodzic is a clear leader among active Atlantic Sun players for field goal percentage with at least 500 attempts. Hodzic is shooting .591 from the field. Then next closest A-Sun player is Jonathan Rodriguez who is connecting on .477 of his shots.
Last season Hodzic scored a career high 30 points on 14-of-16 shooting on Jan. 17 at ETSU. He is the first Lipscomb player to have such a game since the Bisons joined the Atlantic Sun in 2003.
Adnan Hodzic has scored in double figures in 31 consecutive games. The streak is the longest in Lipscomb’s NCAA-era.
Lipscomb’s all-time record is held by athletic director Philip Hutcheson who scored in double figures in every game he played for the Bisons (155).

According to Basketball State Lipscomb ranks No.1 in the Atlantic Sun and No. 13 in the nation for the number of possessions per 40 minutes averaging 81.0 possessions.
Lipscomb is allowing its opponents to shoot 53.9 percent from the floor which is the 10th worse mark in Division I.
