Sunday, February 07, 2010No matter who wins Monday night’s game between the Lipscomb Lady Bisons and the Jacksonville Dolphins the real winner will be those who are working to find a cure for breast cancer.
The game at 7 at Allen Arena is billed as “Think Pink/Pack the House for Cancer Research” night.
Donations will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and St. Thomas Women’s Health Services.
The Lady Bisons will wear special pink uniforms.
“Hopefully, we will get a big crowd,” Lady Bisons coach Frank Bennett said. “The girls are really excited about our uniforms for the game. There is a little purple in them mixed in with the pink.”
The Lady Bisons are 4-20, 2-12 in the Atlantic Sun. They lost 70-48 against North Florida Saturday afternoon.
Jacksonville is 6-15, 5-8 in the conference. They are 1-12 on the road. That lone victory was 54-44 Saturday at Belmont.
“We have to focus on getting ready to play our best,” Bennett said. “It’s a new day for us. There is no way you can change what has happened on the previous days."
Jacksonville is led by senior guard Courtney Jackson with 10 points per game. Senior forward Desarae Johnson is averaging 7.3 rebounds per game.
The Lady Bisons are led by junior point guard Jenna Bartsokas with 11.8 points per game. Sophomore center Brittany Duerk averages 5.9 rebounds per game.
“Jacksonville and North Florida are similar teams,” Bennett said. “Both teams are athletic. They both push the ball and go to the boards.”
There will be free pizza and T-shirts for students before the game starting at 6:30. There will be games and giveaways at every time out.
