FORT MYERS, FLA. – The Lipscomb Lady Bisons turned the ball over 15 times in the first half leading to a considerable differential in field goal attempts as the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles won 64-45 Thursday evening in Alico Arena.
Lipscomb (4-23, 2-15 A-Sun) finished with 21 turnovers compounded with 15 FGCU offensive rebounds giving the Eagles a 60-38 advantage in attempts from the field. FGCU (21-5, 16-2 A-Sun) attempted more threes (43) than Lipscomb’s overall attempts.
It was the 11th consecutive loss for the Lady Bisons, their longest skid since joining the NCAA. Lipscomb has lost 18 consecutive road games.
After junior Jenna Bartsokas scored the first five points of the game for the Lady Bisons, sophomore guard Anna Bowers scored eight straight on two threes and a fastbreak layup to knot the game at 13 at the 9:37 mark.
Lipscomb turned the ball over on the next six possessions as the Eagles took a 21-13 advantage. After a layup by senior Toia McGowan, FGCU tacked five more points to take a 26-15 lead, their largest of the half.
FGCU took a 29-18 lead into the locker room.
Holding a 15 point lead seven minutes into the half, FGCU went on a 9-0 run to go up 50-26 with 10:48 left. The lead would be the largest of the game for FGCU.
Lipscomb did not turn the ball over in the final eight minutes of the contest.
Bartsokas paced the Lady Bisons with 15 points and Bowers added 10 points off the bench.
Eglah Griffin scored a game-high 19 points for the Eagles shooting five-of-ten, all from beyond the arc.
Lipscomb held a 36-33 advantage on the boards, but FGCU grabbed 15 of their 42 misses.
Freshman Morgan Faulkner led Lipscomb in rebounding for the second straight game finishing with six boards.
Lipscomb shot 14-of-38 from the field for 36.8 percent and 4-of-13 from downtown for 30.8 percent.
FGCU connected on 19 of its 60 attempts for 31.7 percent. They were 13-of-43 from the 3-point line for 30.2 percent.
