Tuesday, April 20, 2010The Lipscomb Lady Bisons and Alabama-Birmingham Blazers will play for the first time since 2002 Tuesday afternoon at Draper Diamond.
The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3. The Blazers represent Conference-USA.
The two teams are ranked in the top 40 in this week’s NCAA Softball RPI. The Lady Bisons, 37-9 overall, are rated 39th. The Blazers, 28-4, are 38th.
The Lady Bisons received five votes for the Top 25 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association/USA Today Poll this week. They also received 24 votes in the Ultimate College Softball Poll.
Lipscomb first baseman Kellie Sirus is the Atlantic Sun leader in runs batted in (36), slugging percentage (.715) and runs scored (41).
Second baseman Abby Keese leads the conference in home runs (12) and total bases (96).
Four Lady Bisons are in the top 10 overall in hitting. Whitney Kiihnl is second (.375) followed by Keese in fourth (.364), Courtney Billington in sixth (.359) and Sirus in 10th (.341). Seven Lady Bisons regular players are batting more than .300.
Sirus is tied for second in the A-Sun in home runs (10), total bases (88) and triples (3).
Keese is second in slugging percentage with a .686 and is tied for fifth in RBI with 31.
Lauren Dortwegt is tied for fourth in runs scored with 34. Billington is sixth with 33.
Billington is second in the conference in doubles with 14.
Kiihnl leads the A-Sun in pitching in earned run average (.63) and opposing batting average (.093). She is second in wins with 24.
