Saturday, May 08, 2010It will be brunch at Stetson Thursday as the Lipscomb Lady Bisons open the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament with a 10 a.m. game with Campbell.
The Lady Bisons, 44-10, 18-2 in the conference, are the top seed in the A-Sun Tournament in DeLand, Fla. Campbell, 23-29-1, 10-10, is the No. 6 seed.
In game two at noon tournament host Stetson, the No. 2 seed with a 14-6 conference record, 32-19 overall, plays No. 5 Jacksonville, 10-10 in the A-Sun and 32-21 overall.
The Lady Bisons get an early wake-up call, but the first game of the day begins at 8 a.m. as No. 3 Kennesaw State, 26-24, 11-9, faces No. 4 USC Upstate, 38-13, 11-9.
There are six games on the first day of the tournament. If the Lady Bisons win they would play the loser of the Kennesaw State-USC Upstate game at 5. If they lose their first game they would play the loser of the Stetson-Jacksonville game at 3.
The Lady Bisons lead the conference in hitting with a .318 average, the only team hitting .300 or higher. They also lead in team pitching with a 1.31 earned run average. They are second behind USC Upstate in team fielding with a .974 percentage.
Four Lady Bisons are in the top 10 of the conference overall in hitting. Courtney Billington is second (.365), Whitney Kiihnl is fourth (.361), Mollie Mitchell is sixth (.353) and Abby Keese is tied for seventh (.350).
Kiihnl is the top pitcher in the A-Sun with a 0.71 earned run average. She is 28-2, second to USC Upstate’s Morgan Childers (31-6) in wins. Kiihnl is third in strikeouts overall with 281 in 188 innings.
