Ryan Chastain Thursday, June 03, 2010 Lipscomb University senior cross country and track star Ryan Chastain has been named District IV First Team ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) All-Academic Team for Track & Field/Cross Country.
This is the second year in a row that Chastain has been named to the District IV team. He was a second team selection last season. District IV includes schools in Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan and Alabama.
Chastain was a four-time Atlantic Sun Conference performer in track and field in 2010. He won three indoor-outdoor A-Sun championships in 2010 in the mile (indoor), the distance medley relay (indoor) and the 1,500 meters (outside). He is the first male Lipscomb track athlete to win a conference championship.
He was also fourth in the Atlantic Sun Cross Country Championship in 2009.
He has been a member of the Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team for four years. He is also member of the Athletic Director’s All-Academic Team.
Chastain was honored with the James R. Byers Award for 2010, the highest honor a Lipscomb athlete can receive. The award is given to both a male and female athlete recognizing their Christian leadership as well as both their academic and athletic excellence.
Chastain, from Mitchell, Ind., has a 3.70 grade point average in mechanical engineering.
