Tuesday, July 20, 2010The Lipscomb Lady Bisons basketball schedule for 2010-2011 features road games with the Air Force Academy and Miami.
Fans of the Lady Bisons will get a chance to see the team in action Nov. 6, 2010 when Harding visits Allen Arena for an exhibition game. In the past the Lady Bisons have usually played two exhibition games.
The Lady Bisons open the regular season Nov. 12, 2010 when they visit the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. It will be the first time the Lady Bisons have played Air Force. As part of the contract Air Force will play a game in Allen Arena the next season.
“We thought it would be a fun trip to Colorado Springs,” Lady Bisons coach Frank Bennett said.
The Lady Bisons will celebrate New Year’s 2011 in Miami. The two teams will play Jan. 1 in Miami.
The non-conference home schedule at Allen Arena includes Tennessee Tech (11/18), Jacksonville State (11/20), Alabama A & M (11/22) and Tennessee State (11/27).
In addition to Miami the Lady Bisons will play non-conference games on the road at Central Arkansas in Conway (11/29), at Austin Peay in Clarksville (12/8) and South Alabama (12/22).
“I think it is a fairly balanced schedule,” Bennett said. “It is not like we are playing easy teams, but we are playing teams we ought to be competitive with. We want to try to build some confidence early on.
“We are playing a lot of the Ohio Valley Conference schools like Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech and Tennessee State like we have in the past. Jacksonville State is new for us. Central Arkansas is on the rise. Miami and South Alabama are two of the toughest games we will play.”
The Lady Bisons will open Atlantic Sun Conference play at home against Mercer Dec. 4. They will play Kennesaw State Dec. 18.
“Overall the conference gets better each year,” Bennett said. “ETSU had some big losses in terms of players. Gulf Coast has most of their team back. Upstate played very strong last year. North Florida was one call away from going to the NCAA Tournament.”
The Lady Bisons version of the “Battle of the Boulevard” will be played Jan. 26 at Allen Arena. The Lady Bisons will make the short trip down Belmont Boulevard Jan. 12.
The remaining A-Sun games at Allen Arena are Jacksonville (1/8), North Florida (1/10), Campbell (1/17), Florida Gulf Coast (1/29), Stetson (1/31), ETSU (2/19) and USC Upstate (2/21).
Conference games on the road at Stetson (1/3), Florida Gulf Coast (1/5), ETSU (1/22), USC Upstate (1/24), North Florida (2/3), Jacksonville (2/5), Campbell (2/14), Kennesaw State (2/24) and Mercer (2/26).
“The key to everything is to get back into the conference tournament,” Bennett said. “The league is so balanced that if you can get hot for three games you can get to the NCAA Tournament.
“Most of the games in the conference are toss up games every night. We have to finish better than we did last season. We lost games in the last three to five minutes. Hopefully, we will handle those situations better this season.”
The Atlantic Sun Tournament is scheduled for March 2 through March 5 in Macon, Ga.
