Tuesday, September 07, 2010The Lipscomb Lady Bisons play their first home game of the season at 6:30 Tuesday at Allen Arena.
“We are very excited to be playing at home and in front of our fans,” Lady Bisons coach Brandon Rosenthal said. “The girls have been working hard and we have played some great competition over the past couple weeks.”
The Lady Bisons have won their last two matches, both by scores of 3-0 over Tulane and Pittsburgh in the Pittsburgh Invitational last weekend.
Middle blocker Alex Kelly and outside hitter Kaycee Green were named to the All-Tournament team. Kelly leads the Lady Bisons in both kills with 4.38 per set and digs with 4.43.
“The team is very prepared and ready to show our fans what will be in store for the 2010 season,” Rosenthal said. “Over the past couple of years we have been very successful at home and the team feeds off of the wonderful environment that the crowd brings.”
Senior Santia Sanders leads TSU in kills and sophomore Calasia Williams is tops on the team in digs.
“I expect TSU to be very athletic and looking to make a statement from the first point,” Rosenthal said. . “Typically TSU plays with a lot of energy and tries to extend rallies.
“If we can dictate the tempo and prevent them from getting extra opportunities I think we will be successful. TSU is very dangerous as they always play at another level against us. We will have to serve tough and keep them out of system.”
The Lady Bisons are 4-2. Tennessee State is 0-4. The Laady Bisons have won their last 18 matches at home.
Tennessee State has an 8-6 edge in the series, including a 3-2 win in 2008.
“We have put a lot of effort in giving our fans the behind the scenes look of Lipscomb Volleyball and I hope that leads to increased attendance,” Rosenthal said. “Last year I thought our attendance was great, but I am looking for even more this year. This program continues to raise the bar and I want the same to go for our "game experience".
