Area youth enjoy Bisons soccer clinic

Wednesday, October 06, 2010

The Lipscomb Bisons soccer team held a free youth soccer clinic before Sunday’s game against Stetson at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. Nearly 30 kids from youth soccer clubs in Middle Tennessee learned soccer fundamentals and drills from the Bison players and coaches.

“Holding clinics are a huge benefit for our players as well because they have the opportunity to be role models and mentor young kids,” Lipscomb head coach Charles Morrow said. “We feel called to do things like this within our program and are blessed to be able to share the talents and gifts that we have with the area youth.”

Kids from Brentwood YMCA and St. Bartholomew Academy along with other clubs and leagues around Nashville were in attendance.

“From a kids perspective, if their interested in soccer, their getting to see soccer at a higher level from a development standpoint and having fun while doing so,” Morrow said.

“It’s very important that young kids have interaction with college student-athletes. I think these clinics help develop individual goals and it gets them excited to go to college to continue their education and maybe playing a sport.”
