Saturday, November 27, 2010Brandon Barnes scored a career-high 25 points while Adnan Hodzic, Brandon Brown, and Josh Slater each posted double-doubles as the Bisons stormed behind winning 90-71 at UT-Martin Saturday afternoon in Martin, Tenn.
Lipscomb was down 13 points, 39-26, with 2:55 to play in the first half when Barnes caught fire. The freshman guard connected on his final ten attempts from the floor, including two threes, scoring all of his points in the final 22 minutes of action.
The Bisons played their best defensive half of the season in the second period holding UT Martin to eight field goals and 27.6 percent shooting.
Lipscomb controlled the goals bringing down 55 rebounds to the Skyhawks’ 24. Slater paced the Bisons with 13 rebounds while Hodzic and Brown had 11 each.
Lipscomb posted 22 second chance points off 21 offensive rebounds and scored 52 points in the paint.
Hodzic shot a cool 6-of-15 from the floor and was 10-of-12 from the free throw line to finish with 22 points.
Slater was two assists shy of a triple-double finishing with 15 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists.
UT Martin went on a 13-4 run to take a nine-point lead with 6:43 left in the first. The Bisons used a 7-0 spurt to cut the lead to six points with 1:43 to play in the first. The Skyhawks held a 43-35 advantage at half.
Lipscomb opened the second half on an 11-3 run to tie the game at 46 at the 16:43 mark.
Lipscomb’s defense held UT Martin to four points over a nine-minute span while the offense posed 24 points in the stretch. The Bisons never looked. Freshman guard Robert Boyd made a layup with 1:10 left to give Lipscomb its largest lead of the contest, 22 points. Boyd finished with 12 points and five rebounds.
Benzor Simmons led UT Martin with 21 points and six rebounds. Mike Liabo contributed 18 points off the bench.
Lipscomb has a week to rest before opening conference play against Mercer next Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Allen Arena. Jonathan Seamon and Benjamin Seamon will be on the call for the Lipscomb Sports Network and ASun.TV.
