Sunday, January 30, 2011The Lady Bisons suffered their first shut out of the season on Saturday night when they fell 7-0 to University of Memphis. With the loss, their record falls to 0-2.
“The Lady Bisons played a tough University of Memphis team Saturday evening,” women’s assistant coach Jamie Aid said. “Despite the loss our girls continue to improve, continue to compete and showed the tenacity it takes to keep moving forward.”
Memphis swept the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead over the Lady Bisons.
Senior Kara Jackson and freshman Alyssa Bellini were defeated 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles spot by Slupska and Mikesz.
At No. 2, juniors Danielle Hansen and Elizabeth Keevil fell to Collins and Gray 8-2, while senior Julianne McMeen and sophomore Carlina Jow came up short against Hawkins and Arques, losing 8-3.
With a deficit of 1-0, the Lady Bisons went on to lose all six singles matches.
At the No. 1 singles spot, Keevil was defeated by Collins 6-0, 6-0, while Jackson fell to Slupska 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2.
Hansen lost 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot to Mikesz, and Bellini, who posted the best results of the match, was defeated by Gray 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4.
McMeen came up short at No. 5, falling to Argues 6-2, 6-0, while Jow lost at No. 6 to Hawkins 6-1, 6-0.
The Lady Bisons remain in Memphis to take on Troy State on Sunday.
