Thursday, February 24, 2011KENNESAW, GA. – Kennesaw State outscored the Lipscomb Lady Bisons 22-4 over nearly the first ten minutes of the second half on the way to a 68-58 decision Thursday night at the Convocation Center in Kennesaw, Ga.
Lipscomb led 37-25 at halftime but missed 12 of their first 13 field goal attempts after halftime and had three turnovers to fall behind 47-41 at the 10:22 mark.
Junior Valerie Bronson led Lipscomb in scoring with 17 points on seven-of-16 shooting. Junior Anna Bowers had 14 points hitting four threes while senior Jenna Bartsokas added 11 points.
Kennesaw led 46-37 on the boards with Sametria Gideon bringing down 22 rebounds to go along with 14 points. Junior Brittany Duerk led Lipscomb with eight rebounds.
The Lady Bisons built their first half lead off of Kennesaw turnovers posting 16 points on 13 KSU turnovers. The roles reversed in the second half as Kennesaw had 16 points on 11 Lady Bison turnovers.
Lipscomb shot 34.8 percent while Kennesaw hit 38.1 percent of their shots. The Lady Bisons were three-of-seven from the free throw line. The Owls hit 16 of their 19 attempts.
Lipscomb closes its regular season Saturday at 1 p.m. against Mercer. Benjamin Seamon will be on the call for the Lipscomb Sports Network.
Mercer has already been eliminated from the 2011 General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Championship. Saturday’s game has strong seeding implications as Lipscomb, Belmont, and Kennesaw State are within one game of each other for the five through eight seeds. The tournament kicks off next Wednesday at Mercer’s University Center.
