Thursday, March 17, 2011Every sports team sets big goals for itself at the beginning of a season.
For the Lipscomb Bisons baseball team those goals include earning a berth in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament, winning the conference championship and making trip to an NCAA Regional.
The first step in reaching those conference goals begins Friday at Kennesaw State when the Bisons open A-Sun play at Stillwell Stadium in Kennesaw, Ga. The Bisons are 7-10 overall and are coming off a 14-4 loss to Mississippi State Wednesday night.
They have lost their last four games, all to Southeastern Conference teams. They were swept in a three-game series this past weekend in Oxford against Ole Miss.
Kennesaw State is 11-8 overall, 4-2 in the Atlantic Sun. They beat Georgia 12-8 Wednesday night. Kennesaw State has lost six of its last eight games.
Friday night the Bisons will send left-hander Richie Goodenow (0-3, 3.72 earned run average) to the mound. Kennesaw State will counter with right-hander Josh Carr who is 1-1 with a 1.82 ERA.
Saturday right-hander Connor Sinclair (1-2, 1.85) will start for the Bisons against Bryan Blough (0-1, 5.50). Sunday right-hander Dannie Strable (2-2, 3.86) will get the call for the Bisons against left-hander Zac Griffith (3-1, 5.57).
Goodenow leads the Bisons in hitting with a .404 average. He enters the series with a six-game hitting streak. His 12 runs batted in also lead the team.
Ronnie Freeman is the top hitter for Kennesaw State. He is batting .406.
