Friday, March 25, 2011The Lipscomb baseball team scored five runs in the eighth-inning but it wasn’t enough as they fell behind 10-0 before losing 10-5 to Jacksonville at Session Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
Jacksonville (14-8, 5-2 A-Sun) committed four errors defensively but the Bisons (7-15, 0-4 A-Sun) stranded 12 runners on base and had only one extra-base hit in the game.
The Bisons trailed 10-0 before scoring five runs on three hits while sending all nine batters to the plate in a five-run eighth. Matt Brewer and Kyle Henry had RBI-singles in the inning while M.L. Williams drove in another run on a sacrifice fly.
Lipscomb’s Josh Chism had a career night at the plate, going 5-for-5 with a run scored. Chism was the only Bison in the lineup with more than one hit.
The Dolphins jumped out to a 9-0 lead and forced the Bisons to use their bullpen early as Goodenow threw 77 pitches in 1.2 innings.
JU starter Steve Eagerton allowed four runs, three earned on eight hits in seven innings Friday to improve to 5-0 on the year.
Bisons starter Richie Goodenow allowed eight runs, three earned on eight hits in 1.2 innings to fall to 0-5 on the season.
Blake Fonfara was solid in relief Friday, allowing two runs on six hits in five innings of middle relief. The Rosemount, Minn., native struck out six and walked none to lower his ERA to 3.97.
Jacksonville outhit the Bisons 14-10 with five of them belonging to Chism.
Game two of the series with the Dolphins will get underway Saturday at 1 p.m.
Connor Sinclair (1-3, 2.05 ERA) will start for the Bisons while JU will counter with senior left-hander Matthew Tomshaw.
