Monday, April 11, 2011The Bisons have punched their ticket to DeLand, Fla., for the 2011 Atlantic Sun Men’s Tennis Championships.
With Lipscomb defeating Belmont and North Florida defeating Jacksonville this past weekend, the Bisons earned the No. 6 seed. It marks the first time in school history the Bisons have earned a top-6 seed at the conference tournament.
As the No. 6 seed, the Bisons will face third-seeded Campbell at 3:30 p.m. CT in the first round on Thursday, April 14. The Fighting Camels (16-4, 7-3 A-Sun) defeated the Bisons, 6-1 in Buies Creek, N.C. on April 2. The winner of the CU-LU match will advance to play No. 2 ETSU in Friday’s semifinals.
The Bisons (7-10 overall, 4-6 A-Sun) will be searching for its first-ever win at the A-Sun Tournament making its seventh all-time appearance at the conference tournament on Thursday in DeLand, Fla.
Lipscomb has been a No. 7 seed three times (‘09, ’08, ’06) a No. 8 seed once (’07) and a No. 10 seed twice (’05 and ’04). The Bisons last conference tournament appearance was in the 2009 when they fell to Stetson, 4-0 in the first round.
The 2011 season was a record setting season for the Bisons.
Lipscomb shattered the school record for overall dual wins in a season with seven, including a program best four conference dual wins.
The 2011 A-Sun Tournament will be hosted by Stetson University in DeLand, Fla., April 14-16. First round action will be played on Thursday with the semifinals to follow on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
ETSU has won the last four A-Sun Tournaments while Stetson has finished runner-up the last five seasons.
