A talented upperclass leads an experienced frontline for the 2011 edition of the Lipscomb men’s soccer team, with three seniors and a sophomore slated to lead the offense.
Senior All-Conference honoree Garret Pettis is back after leading the Bisons in scoring last season with 21 points. His nine goals tied for the Bison lead in 2010, and he is nearing the top career marks in goals (24 entering 2011, eight behind Miguel DaSilva for first all-time), points (55, one behind Ben Page for second all-time) and shots (143, 40 behind DaSilva for second all-time).
Pettis was the lone Lipscomb player named to the preseason All-Atlantic Sun team by the conference coaches.
Joining him up front will be classmate Andrew Chamberlain, who spent much of last season out on the wing. The Nashville native has seven career goals and has started 51 of the 59 matches he’s appeared in during his Lipscomb career.
Another senior expected to contribute to the offense is Evan McGee. Also expected to see time in the midfield, McGee has been a valuable asset off the bench for Lipscomb during his three years in Nashville, appearing in 40 matches.
Another McGee joins the squad this year in freshman Shea McGee. Brother of Evan and starting goalkeeper Brent, Shea was a first-team all-Olympic Conference selection three times during his career at Seneca High School in New Jersey.
Sophomore Nick Bibb also returns for the Bisons. The Hoover, Ala. native accrued eight points in his freshman season, and will most likely split time between the midfield and at forward.
The Bisons continue the preseason Wednesday, at 5 p.m. against Trevecca on the training field behind Cofer’s Chapel Church before opening the regular season, Friday, against Georgia State. Check back on Lipscombsports.com all week for more previews, with the midfielders being profiled, Tuesday.
