Golden Dome Invitational Home Page

The Lipscomb volleyball team hits the road this weekend for their third tournament inside of three weeks with an appearance in the “Golden Dome Invitational” hosted by Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

"I’m excited because it’s going to be a neat place to go,” said Lipscomb head coach Brandon Rosenthal. “It’s one of those iconic college campuses and the name itself carries a lot of weight.  We’ve put ourselves in a position to play some good competition.  There’s not going to be an easy win and that’s not what we’re looking for.”

The Lady Bisons (2-5) posted a 2-1 record in the inaugural “Lipscomb Invitational” last weekend before falling to Western Kentucky on Tuesday night at Allen Arena.

“I feel good about where the girls are and I am looking forward to going and playing good competition,” said Rosenthal. “It’s exciting just the idea of taking this team forward.  I’m really encouraged by what we continue to do in practice.”

The opponents:

Notre Dame – The host Fighting Irish enter the tourney with a 3-2 mark.  UND opened the season 3-0 with wins over Eastern Michigan, Idaho and Butler in the Shamrock Invitational before dropping a pair of contests on the West Coast to Stanford and St. Mary’s in the Stanford Invitational.  This marks the first-ever meeting between Lipscomb and Notre Dame in any women’s sport.

Valparaiso – Lipscomb faces another first-time opponent in Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon.  The Crusaders enter the tournament 6-2 on the season including a 3-1 appearance last weekend in the “Marriot Volley Brawl” hosted by Valparaiso.

Portland – The Lady Bisons continue to trend of facing new foes on Sunday with a morning match against Portland.  The Pilots head into the weekend 3-5 on the young season with their wins coming against Nevada and Seattle.
