Lipscomb senior sharp-shooter Jordan Burgason was selected by the league coaches to the Preseason All-Atlantic Sun Team, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Burgason, a marketing major from Ames, Iowa, averaged 10.8 points for the Bisons last season. He led the A-Sun in three-pointers made per game at 2.8 and was ranked fifth in 3-point percentage at 41.8. He shot 49.0 percent from the 3-point line in the final 14 games of the season.
Burgason is Lipscomb’s leading 3-point shooter in the NCAA-era with 211 made treys.
Kennesaw State’s Markeith Cummings was chosen as the Atlantic Sun Preseason Player of the Year. Joining Burgason and Cummings on the All-Conference team are Torrey Craig (USC Upstate), Ian Clark (Belmont), Mick Hedgepeth (Belmont), Isiah Brown (ETSU), Tommy Hubbard (ETSU), Jerron Granberry (North Florida), Andy Diaz (North Florida), Scott Saunders (Belmont), and Delwan Graham (Jacksonville).
Lipscomb was selected by the coaches and media to finish in sixth place. The Bisons were one vote shy of Mercer in the coaches’ poll for fifth place.
The Bisons return four players from last year's team that went 17-13. This year's squad features seven newcomers plus two players who redshirted last season.
Belmont was picked by both the coaches and the media to win the Atlantic Sun title. ETSU was selected second in both polls. North Florida and Jacksonville were ranked third and fourth, respectively, by the coaches and Mercer was picked fifth. Kennesaw State, Florida Gulf Coast, USC Upstate and Stetson rounded out both preseason polls.
The Bisons host Freed-Hardeman in an exhibition game on Tuesday, Nov. 1, and open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 11 against Fort Valley State. Middle Tennessee sports station 102.5 The Game will carry 26 men’s basketball broadcasts presented by Jackson this season.
