EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Lipscomb cross country teams showed tremendous talent even without their top runners at the Evansville Invitational, Saturday. The women’s team finished fifth out of 11 squads, while the men finished 11th out of 12 squads.
Senior Louisa Van Batavia finished 12th overall out of 111 competitors in the women’s 5K with an 18:46.64s run.
Freshman Kaitlyn Llewellyn also earned a top-20 mark, finishing 19th with an 18:58.43s run.
Sophomore Miranda Klein posted her season’s best run of 19:24.15s, finishing 26th.
Sophomore Katie Bunker (37th, 19:43.21s) and junior Priya Pappu (40th, 19:48.06s) rounded out the scoring for the women’s squad. The Lady Bisons finished 93 points behind winner and Atlantic Sun foe Belmont.
The men were led by freshman Tate Honaker, who finished the 8K race 63rd with a 27:45.78s mark.
Freshman Cliff Long set a personal-best in the race, finishing 71st with a 28:04.86s mark.
Finishing the Bisons scoring were freshmen Ben Ashley (86th, 28:33.44s)and Zak Vruwink (87th, 28:36.84s) and senior Aaron Todd (97th, 29:43.53s).
The cross country teams will take next weekend off to rest up for the 2011 A-Sun Cross Country Championships, Oct. 29 on the Vaughn’s Gap Course at Percy Warner Park.
