Lipscomb senior Garret Pettis has been named to Soccer America’s National Team of the Week for the week of Oct. 10-16, the website announced Thursday.
Pettis scored a career-high four goals in Lipscomb’s 5-0 victory against North Florida, Sunday. The Elizabethtown, Pa. native tied the Lipscomb record with his offensive explosion, equaling the mark set by Scott Mason against Centenary on Oct. 24, 2005; no A-Sun player had scored four goals in one contest since Mason. The performance is also tied for the seventh-best goal-scoring output by an individual in single game in A-Sun history.
With his final goal of the day, Pettis tied former teammate Miguel DaSilva for most goals in a career by a Bisons player with 32.
Pettis was named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week for the first time this season, and third of his career. The award from Soccer America marks the first time a Lipscomb men’s soccer player has earned a spot on a national team of the week.
Pettis is now the A-Sun’s season-leader in points (19) and tied with Belmont’s Brandon Tarr for the league lead in goals (8).
Lipscomb continues its regular season with a weekend road trip to A-Sun rivals Florida Gulf Coast (Oct. 21) and Stetson (Oct. 23).
