NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb men’s cross country team posted its best finish ever at the Atlantic Sun Championships, coming in fourth in Saturday’s race at Percy Warner Park.
The Bisons finished with 90 points as a squad, behind USC Upstate (69), Kennesaw State (79) and host Belmont (84).
Lipscomb’s runners were paced as they have been all season by Isaiah Greer. The junior finished 11th in the eight-kilometer run with a 25:44.56s mark, earning his first career All-Conference second team accolade.
Joining Greer as an all-conference honoree was junior Ashton Fisher. He finished 13th, just behind Greer at 25:50.29s.
“Ashton Fisher really stepped up for us today,” said Lipscomb head coach Bill Taylor. “Really, everyone performed well and I’m pleased with the effort.”
With Greer and Fisher earning spots on the second team, it marks the first time Lipscomb has placed two runners on the All-Conference squads in one A-Sun Championship.
Junior Geoff Musick (25:59.23s) and freshman Ryan Gadsey (26:02.77s) finished 18th and 19th, respectively. That finish earned Gadsey a spot on the All-Freshman team, making him Lipscomb’s first freshman honoree since Nathan Brame in 2008.
Junior Ben Wright rounded out the scoring for the Bisons, finishing 29th with a 26:20.74s mark.
USC Upstate's Gilbert Kemboi won the individual title. while ETSU's Filip Javoly was named Freshman of the Year.
Today’s finish may serve to heal some disappoints from last season. The Bisons entered the 2010 A-Sun championships ranked fifth in the conference, but stumbled to a ninth-place finish.
The men’s team will be back in action, Nov. 12, at the NCAA South Regional in Tuscaloosa, Ala., hosted by the University of Alabama.
