MACON, Ga. – Six Lipscomb student-athletes were named to the Atlantic Sun indoor track and field academic all-conference team, the conference office announced Thursday. Four men and two women athletes represented the purple and gold.
The A-Sun introduced the new sport-by-sport Academic All-Conference teams last fall to recognize student-athletes who embody the conference’s mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or better and participated in at least half of their team’s meets.
A trio of juniors and a sophomore from the men’s team earned four of the 12 spots on the all-academic team. Distance runners Geoff Musick (3.86 GPA, Chemistry) and Isaiah Greer (3.55, Math) were joined by jumper Logan Ray (3.47, Biology) as Bison upperclassmen to earn the honor. Musick’s 3.86 grade point average was the highest among men’s honorees.
Sophomore Tucker Peabody (3.31, Undeclared), the A-Sun indoor gold medalist in the 200m dash, was the fourth Bison athlete to make the squad.
Peabody’s classmate Tessa Hoefle was one of only two academic all-conferences honoree, men or women, to post a 4.0 grade point average. The English major was a unanimous selection.
Sophomore distance runner Katie Bunker (3.77, Chemistry) was the other Lady Bison honored. She was an integral part of the distance medley relay team that took bronze at the A-Sun Indoor championships two weeks ago.
USC Upstate’s Gilbert Kemboi (3.45, sociology) and Kennesaw State’s Naomi Mack (3.49, communications) earned men’s and women’s indoor Scholar Athlete of the Year honors.
The Bison and Lady Bison track and field athletes open the outdoor season at this weekend’s UNF Spring Break Invitational.
