Hatters come out on top of Senior Day for the Lady Bisons

Saturday, April 14, 2012

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s tennis team wrapped up the 2012 season on Saturday with a 5-2 to loss to Stetson on Senior Day at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center in Nashville.

"This match was all about the seniors,” head coach Andrew Harris said. “To have Elizabeth Keevil finish her match off today against Stetson with a down the line backhand winner was simply poetic. I know that Danielle Hansen and Samantha Bowman have tremendous things in store for them in their next season of life. Unfortunately, on the court we were not able to get the production across the board that was needed to be successful in a match like this; however, this day is about the past four years and the direction this program is moving. Congratulations to our seniors."

Although it was senior day, at least in doubles play, the freshman took the lead for Lipscomb.

The Lady Bisons started off the match with two doubles losses, awarding the first point to Stetson.

Their lone doubles win came at the No. 1 spot, where freshmen Deahna Welcher and Jenny Borck easily took down Sara Lazarevic and MayaBlue MacDowell 8-1.

Seniors Elizabeth Keevil and Danielle Hasen fell at No. 2 to Diana Bukajeva and Jen Miller 8-3, while sophomore Alyssa Bellini and senior Samantha Bowman were defeated by Shannon Gunning and Lindsey Cable 8-2 at No. 3.

The Lady Bisons were only able to record two wins in singles play, one of which came from Keevil, who was able to post a win in her final collegiate match.

Keevil’s win came at No. 4, where she defeated MacDowell 6-4, 6-3.

Welcher also posted a win for the Lady Bisons at the No. 2 spot, taking down Clarke Tatje 6-3, 6-2.

At No. 1, Bellini was defeated by Gunning 7-5, 6-1, while Borck fell at No. 3 to Bukajeva 6-3, 6-1.

Hansen was defeated at No. 5 by Cable, losing 6-3, 6-0, and Bowman fell 6-1, 6-1 to Miller at No. 6.

With the loss, the Lady Bisons finish their 2012 season with a 1-8 conference record.
