NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After stepping outside of Atlantic Sun Conference play against Campbell last weekend, the Lipscomb baseball teams returns to league action this weekend hosting Florida Gulf Coast beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday night at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium.
The three-game set looks to be a critical one in the race to make the A-Sun tournament hosted May 23-26 by Stetson in DeLand, Fla. The Bisons (20-24) and Eagles (18-26) sit tied in fifth place with identical 9-9 records against conference competition with the top six finishers making the postseason.
“We’ve got nine A-Sun games left and the opportunity to play six of those at home and we don’t have to travel very far to play our last series,” said Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand. “Every series is big. Being able to play at home after being on the road for two weeks is good for us.
“We’ve talked about it before, everybody in our league is good and we’re looking for a good series against Gulf Coast.”
Friday’s contest features a battle between Lipscomb senior right-hander Connor Sinclair (6-3, 3.04 ERA) and FGCU sophomore righty Ricky Knapp (6-4, 2.25 ERA). Saturday’s tilt will see Lipscomb junior southpaw Blake Fonfara (2-5, 4.72 ERA) go toe-to-toe with Eagle senior righty Jason Forjet (0-4, 3.15 ERA).
The series wraps up on Sunday morning with a contest between Bison junior right-hander Josh Cotham (3-4, 3.05 ERA) and FGCU southpaw sophomore Brandon Bixler (3-4, 4.24 ERA), the reigning A-Sun Pitcher of the Week after fanning 14 batters last weekend against Kennesaw State.
Saturday’s contest is “Senior Night” for the Bisons as Lipscomb will take a few moments during a pregame ceremony to honor the 2012 senior class. For those unable to make it to Dugan Field, the game and the ceremony will be streamed live on ASun.TV
Tickets are $5 for those ages 13 and up and free for those ages 12 and under.
