The selection of Greg Brown as the fourth head coach in the history of the Lipscomb women's basketball program has drawn praise from the collegiate basketball community.  Brown will be officially introduced to the Lipscomb community Thursday, May 17 at 2 p.m. in the Allen Arena Hall of Fame Room. The event is open to the public and will be streamed live on ASunTV.

Don Meyer, former Lipscomb men's basketball coach

“I commend the selection committee and athletic director Philip Hutcheson in picking Greg Brown as head coach and continuing the Lipscomb women's basketball program legacy that Frank Bennett led for so many years.

“Greg is an excellent recruiter, a tireless worker, and has a dedicated love for Lipscomb.  He will prosper and his teams will prosper under his guidance.”

Joi Williams, UCF women’s head basketball coach

“Lipscomb has definitely hit a home run with the hiring of Greg Brown to lead its women's basketball program. Greg is a man with great integrity and character. He has worked extremely hard to prepare himself for this opportunity.

“I feel very fortunate that we've been able to work side by side for the last five years and accomplish some very special things at UCF. Greg is a great leader and a passionate teacher of the game. I know he will be committed to cultivating an environment of success and building a championship program.”

Frank Bennett, Lipscomb women’s basketball coach for 32 years

“I’ve known Greg since his days as a student assistant coach with coach Meyer. We have kept in touch over the years.

“He is a disciple of Coach Meyer. He has the experience and background to do a great job. I hope he takes the program to new levels.

“He knows what Lipscomb is about. He will try to develop the total person, spiritually academically and socially as well as in basketball. I wish him the best as he makes the transition.”

Bob Starkey, Texas A&M women’s basketball assistant coach and former LSU coach

“The hiring of Greg Brown to Lipscomb University is a perfect fit.  Lipscomb is getting an outstanding teacher that will recruit quality student-athletes who will graduate and win championships.

“But more importantly they are bringing one of their own home.  Greg has a great passion for Lipscomb and a strong understanding of the culture and traditions of Bison basketball and the Tennessee region.  I’m excited for Greg.”

Beth Stark, former Lipscomb basketball player

“I’m thrilled and excited that Greg will be coaching the Lipscomb women’s basketball team. He will bring great leadership skills and be a great role model for these kids in terms of hard work and discipline.

“He has outstanding contacts as far as recruiting goes. He knows so many coaches and other people in the business. I think he will be able to spread the knowledge of Lipscomb.”
