This weekend The Pack took its talents on the road to Georgia. Leaving on Thursday afternoon, we hopped on the Greyhound bound for Kennesaw State. We tried to watch “Bridesmaids” but unfortunately in the man vs. technology battle, man lost and we could not get the volume to work while Wi-Fi was on. So instead, most people did their homework and I took to three very intense hours of online shopping.
Upon arrival outside of "ATL" we went to a little Italian restaurant and took a little break from the Arctic freezer that was our bus. Then, our favorite Homewood Suites provided us with complimentary hot chocolate packets and a comfy night stay. We were up early for a practice at Kennesaw which began with a little impromptu baseball game involving a mop led by Jeff Wismer and Ryan Daly- just let your imagination wander. The practice was a little slow but after taking a solid power nap we were ready to go come game time.
The Stampede came to support us and they were absolutely fantastic. We out-cheered the Owls in their own gym- talk about school spirit. We were hyped to see TJ and his crew roll in and heckle our opponents the whole time, constantly asking them "Do you know Jesus,"... isn't that sweet? Just trying to spread faith all over the Atlantic Sun.
After saying goodbye to our fans we hopped back on the chilly bus and headed down to Mercer after grabbing some dinner. Team breakfast and a treacherous hike to the gym had us ready for the early game versus the Bears Saturday afternoon.
Mercer used their back gym so the bleachers were literally right on the court and their band was blaring in our ears. I have to give it to them; I had a monstrous headache by the time the game was over. We won in four and partook in a celebratory dance party led by Jewell Dobson- who learned a few new moves the day before during our break.
Since we won- and for all those who are concerned, are finally at .500 for the season- we were rewarded with a McDonald’s trip. In the meticulously thought out words of the wise lone senior, Kaycee Green- "if we do good things, we get treats." And treats we got- ice cream, hot chocolate and frappes were popular choices.
Getting back on the bus we rode the five hours back watching “The Hunger Games”, which everyone was engrossed in, finally finished “Bridesmaids” and concluded with “Step Up 2” to get everyone in a dancing mood for our final descent into Nashville.
We unpacked and headed back to our rooms to enjoy our Saturday night and Sunday off. If asked to sum up the trip, I would call it one big bus ride with some volleyball sprinkled in here and there. On to the next one, ETSU and Upstate bound next weekend.
