NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After having played their final home game of the season, the Lipscomb men’s soccer team plays its final three games on the road starting with Jacksonville on Friday and North Florida on Sunday.
The Bisons, 4-10-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the Atlantic Sun, sit in seventh-place holding down the final position for the A-Sun Conference tournament.
This past weekend, the Bisons played to a 1-1 draw with Stetson and fell 1-0 in overtime to USC Upstate. Matt Shanklin scored his first career goal on senior night, when he picked up a loose ball and lofted it over the leaping Stetson goalkeeper. The Hatters tied the game early in the second half and the two teams battled to Lipscomb’s first draw of the season.
A goal scored off a free kick in overtime was the difference in the contest against USC Upstate. The Bisons controlled possession for most of the game, outshooting the Spartans 12-7, but were unable to plant any goals.
Jacksonville enters 3-11-1 overall, sitting sixth in the Atlantic Sun Conference with a 2-4-0 record. The Dolphins gave Mercer their first conference loss in a 2-1 victory last Saturday and fell 3-2 to Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday in double overtime.
Led by Matheus Saroli and Nick Rodriguez with five goals apiece, JU has scored 17 goals on the season with 15 assists. Matheus also leads the team with three assists. Goalkeeper Gavin Carlin has 74 saves and a .725 save percentage. Carlin owns a 1.79 goals against average.
North Florida enters the weekend 3-11-0 and 0-5-0 in the A-Sun. The Ospreys dropped a 3-0 contest to Mercer and a 2-0 game to FGCU last week and will take on Stetson prior to battling the Bisons on Sunday.
Maurice Valderruten leads the Ospreys with three goals while four others have two goals apiece. Using two goalkeepers throughout the season both Brad Sienkiewicz and Kyle Nasta each have recorded eight games played. Sienkiewicz has 47 saves and a .758 save percentage while Nasta has 62 saves and a .653 save percentage.
Following the trip to Florida, the Bisons travel to Northern Kentucky for the regular season finale on Saturday, Nov. 3.
