NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After months of anticipation and preparation, the Lipscomb baseball kicks off the 2013 season on Friday hosting first-time foe SIUE for the first of a three-game series at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium in Nashville at 4 p.m.
“Opening day never gets old,” said Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand. “This game is in all of our blood. It’s an exciting time as it rolls around. All of the early morning workouts and all the practices that you put in to prepare for this day and for a 56-game season starts tomorrow.”
Senior righty Josh Cotham gets the nod to get the season underway after a team-best 2.56 ERA last season in 13 starts on the hill. The veteran will face off against junior righthander Travis Felax, who was 6-5 as a sophomore with a 3.67 ERA for the Cougars.
“I feel like we’ve improved in a lot of areas,” said Forehand. “We have an experienced team. Offensively, I think we’re going to be a productive team and then on the mound we’ve got some veteran guys who’ve been around the block. I really feel like the product we put on the field this year will be one the fans will be proud of.”
The Bisons will throw senior righty Davey Hackett on Saturday to face SIUE senior southpaw Drew Staples. The series will conclude on Sunday afternoon with a matchup between Lipscomb sophomore righthander Will Blalock and SIUE senior righty Brooks McDowell.
Friday night’s contest is highlighted by the inaugural “Mustache Bash” hosted at Dugan Field along with free hot chocolate throughout the weekend. To purchase tickets, call 615-566-4373 or visit http://www.BeHerdLU.com
