CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Lipscomb Lady Bisons have spent most of the week concentrating on their performances at the plate.

All of the hard work paid off Friday as they connected for eight hits in a 4-2 in over Missouri State in the opening day of the Frost Classic hosted by Tennessee-Chattanooga. The Lady Bisons ended their five-game losing streak, lifting their season record to 4-5. Missouri State, from the Missouri Valley Conference, slipped to 5-7.

LU is back in action at approximately 6 p.m. when they face Chattanooga.

The Lady Bisons struck for one run in the third inning. With one out, Brittany Elmore reached base on a bunt single and then stole second. Paige Neely singled to right field to drive Elmore home.

In the fifth the Lady Bisons added three runs. Once again, Elmore started things off, this time with a single to right field. Neely doubled down the right field line to score Elmore. Kelsey Cartwright brought Neely home with a double down the left field line.

Missouri State bounced back for two runs in the sixth. A double by Stevie Pierce drove in two runs. Amber Dreher, who opened the inning with a walk, and Caitlin Chapin, who reached base on a fielder’s choice, scored for the Bears.

Right-hander Heather Parker started for the Lady Bisons. She held Missouri State to three hits and gave up only one earned run. She walked three and struck out nine to even her record at 2-2.

Parker’s earned run average is 1.60. She has appeared in seven games for the Purple and Gold.  This was her second start and her second complete game.

Jessie Van Es, a right-hander, started for Missouri State. She struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Elmore finished three-for-three at the plate. Neely had two hits and two RBI in three at bats.

Saturday morning the Frost Classic continues with the Lady Bisons playing Ohio at 10 a.m. followed by Niagara at 2:30.

They close out the three-day event Sunday at 9 a.m. against Miami-Ohio.
