JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Lipscomb Bisons golf team finished fifth in the Grub Mart Intercollegiate.
Ryan Terry shot the low round of the day for the Bisons Tuesday with a 72 over 18 holes in the final round of the 54-hole tournament at the Silver Lakes Golf Course.
Jacksonville State, the tournament host, finished in first place in the 10-team field.
Dustin Wilder and Blanton Farmer each shot rounds of 75 on the final 18.
Paul Kleine-Kracht finished with an 81 and Alex Cox shot an 84.
“It was a very challenging golf course,” said Will Brewer, LU’s director of golf. “Dustin played well in the final round. Blanton came back and played well. Ryan played very well on the final round.”
The Bisons, as a team, finished the third round with a score of 303, their lowest round of the tournament.
Wilder was the top finisher for the Bisons. He tied for 17th with a score of 227 (78, 74, 75).
Farmer (78, 78, 75) and Terry (79, 80, 72) both tied for 28th at 231.
Kleine-Kracht (77, 77, 81) and Cox (72, 79, 84) tied for 41st place with each firing a 235.
“I was very pleased with our stat grading,” Brewer said. “The majority of the team hit the ball well. We hit most of the green in regulation at a higher average than we had been doing.”
The Bisons will continue to work on their short game for the next two weeks.
“The greens were difficult,” Brewer said. “We didn’t handle them as well as I thought we would. We will be spending a lot of time on the short game.”
