BRASELTON , Ga. - The Lipscomb men's golf team is tied for ninth after the first day of the Atlantic Sun Tournament, but it is only six stokes out of a tie for fifth.
LU has a score of 314 after 18 holes, tying with Northern Kentucky at The Legends Course at Chateau Elan Sunday.
Florida Gulf Coast is in eigth with a 313. Stetson is seventh at 309. Mercer and USC Upstate are tied for fifth at 308.
North Florida is the leader at 289.
"We are still competing," said Will Brewer, LU director of golf. "We have two more rounds. I am confident we will respond."
Dustin Wilder is tied for 10th with a 75. Blanton Farmer is tied for 24th with a 77.
Paul Kleine-Kracht is tied for 37th with an 80. Alex Cox is tied for 43rd with an 82. Ryan Terry is in 48th after carding an 84.
Brewer called the conditions challenging with cool and windy weather. The short game is the main area Brewer wants to see his players take to another level.
"The greens were firm and fast," Brewer said. "We did not putt well and a couple of players had a few mistakes. To be competitive in this conference on this challenging course we must putt well!"
