NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Looking to solidify positioning for the 2013 Atlantic Sun Conference baseball championship held later this month in DeLand, Fla., the Lipscomb baseball team heads to league foe Jacksonville for a three-game set that gets underway under the lights on Friday night in Jacksonville, Fla.

With two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Bisons (19-30, 8-13 A-Sun) are tied with USC Upstate for seventh place in the conference standings. The top eight teams in the league standings will earn their postseason berth as the field expands from six teams in previous years. Currently, Lipscomb enters this weekend’s series one game ahead of Jacksonville (16-32, 7-14 A-Sun) in the race to make the tournament.

Lipscomb is set to send senior righty Josh Cotham, the reigning A-Sun Pitcher of the Week, to the hill on Friday night to take on Jacksonville right hander to take on Dolphin ace Chris Anderson. After Cotham’s three-hit, complete-game shutout last Friday night at Northern Kentucky, the veteran sports a 3-4 mark on the season and a 7.36 ERA.  Anderson is 6-5 on the season with a team-best 3.05 ERA along with a league-best 88 strikeouts in 85.2 innings of work.

Saturday is set to be a matchup of Lipscomb freshman righthander Denton Norman and Jacksonville righty Alex McRae.  Norman enters the contest 2-1 on the season with a team-best 2.87 ERA while McRae is 3-6 with a 4.48 ERA.

The series is set to conclude on Sunday afternoon with another righty battle between Lipscomb’s Will Blalock and Jacksonville’s Drew Woods.  Blalock enters the weekend 1-4 with a 5.75 ERA having made a team-best 12 starts in 2013.  Woods has seen a lot of work this season making 21 appearances for JU but only a pair of starts.  The righthander is 1-3 with a 9.50 ERA.
